Sonic Sample 1

So for my first compilation I figured I'd post a large variety of songs, from Kings of Leon to Her Space Holiday; apologies if they're a bit old, plenty more to come... Enjoy

Kings of Leon - I Want You

My favourite from their new album 'Only By the Night', although I think their faster songs deliver a more electrifying sound, the simplicity of the percussion and bass comes up trumps. Gotta love those cow bells...

The Crimea - Lottery Winners on Acid

I've gotta be honest, the only reason I listened to this song was because I thought the name was funny. It's not a blinder of a song but it gives off an air of "I don't give a fuck" in a much more suitable way than some idiotic heavy metal band. Everytime I hear it I picture some fat kid (as above) walking or even floating down a street with a massive grin on his face. Dunno why...

Third Eye Blind - Motorcycle Driveby

Great breezy song that crescendos into a manic fast paced killer (or something mental like that). I reckon it's impossible to hear this without nodding your head to it. Lovely...

Her Space Holiday - Japanese Gum

I love this band! Or person. Marc Bianchi (a.k.a Her Space Holiday) produces some stunning electronic pop. His lyrics are, in all honesty, pretty depressing in his early work: "I know that you need help, but even I can't save you from yourself" is not the bounciest line in the history of popular music. What makes it great is the contrast of the upbeat music and Matt's sad lyrics delivered by his monotonous voice, excellent...

Her Space Holiday - Sleepy Tigers

This is my girlfriends favourite song at the moment, I love it too. This song was released after 'Japanese Gum'. It is amazing that it is the same person singing, now there's happy music and happy lyrics, a 'real-feel-good' song...

Thom Yorke - Black Swan

Thom Yorke of Radiohead has mastered the art of electronic music on his first solo attempt. I could have chosen any of his songs from the 2006 album 'The Eraser', get it...

Pela - Lost to the Lonesome

Ahh, the mighty Pela!! Wow. A lot more to come from what was, up until their recent and tragic split, my favourite band. This is perhaps their song that got the furthest. Sadly it wasn't far enough...

Klaxons - Gravity's Rainbow (Soulwax Remix)

It's not just one genre here at Sonic Symphony, this remix of Klaxons tune was huge and therefore merited a place on this playlist. No-one remixes like Soulwax and this proves it. It enhances what was a good song into a blinder containing one of the best drops heard outside of the Drum and Bass genre...

Jesus and Mary Chain - Sometimes Always

Jim Reid oozes cool on this track featuring Hope Sandoval. It's simple and only features two chords but it works. Nice...
