I went to a Basement Jaxx gig the other night and was pleasantly surprised. I rate them as one of the most under appreciated bands of the moment. They brought us classics such as Red Alert, Oh My Gosh and my favourite, Where's Your Head At?. Here's (below) one of their best from their new album 'Scars'. It's called Scars. However I knew that Jaxx weren't going to upset, they were awesome, blew the roof down... But it was the supporting act that really got me excited. It was the 2009 Mercury Music Prize winner - Speech Debelle.
Debelle beat highly acclaimed Florence and the Machine to the prize as well as Kasabian and the Friendly Fires. I bought a copy of her winning, and debut, album. In a word, it's different. Finally a rapper who has an interest in a multitude of things other than guns and drugs. She's intelligent, her lyrics are quick and witty although you have to listen hard to catch all that she's saying. Best of the lot has to be Spinnin.
